Please note that these credentials do not independently authorize an individual to practice without underlying professional certification or licensure, and you should check and comply with the laws and regulations applicable to you within your region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a class=\"grouped_elements\" title=\"CertLogos2015.001\" href=\"http:\/\/wp.breining.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/CertLogos2015.001.jpg\" rel=\"tc-fancybox-group502\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-489\" src=\"http:\/\/wp.breining.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/CertLogos2015.001-300x300.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.breining.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/CertLogos2015.001-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.breining.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/CertLogos2015.001-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/www.breining.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/CertLogos2015.001-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.breining.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/CertLogos2015.001.jpg 350w\" alt=\"CertLogos2015.001\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\">RAS Credential Eligibility<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"s1\">The Registered Addiction Specialist (RAS) Credential is available to individuals with an underlying healthcare professional license or certification from a State-approved or recognized, or nationally-recognized, licensing or certification agency, when they meet the RAS standards, document their eligibility, and pass the qualifying ACE Exam:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Must hold current license or certificate in healthcare profession<\/li>\n<li>Minimum one year (or 2,000 hours) experience in health care profession<\/li>\n<li>Minimum 155 hours formal education related to alcohol and other drugs \/ substance use disorders (may be included in studies already completed for your healthcare license or certification)<\/li>\n<li>Pass the nationally-administered Addiction Counselor Exam (&#8220;ACE&#8221; Exam)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>$75 application fee.<br \/>\nNo membership dues.<br \/>\nRenewal is every 2 years.<\/p>\n<hr noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"5\" \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Eligibility Checklist<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p3\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">You will need to document the following:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #008000;\"><b>CURRENT CERTIFICATION OR LICENSE<\/b><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Must hold current healthcare professional license or certification from a State-approved or recognized, or nationally-recognized, licensing or certification agency<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #008000;\"><b>EDUCATION and CLINICAL EXPERIENCE<\/b><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum education and clinical experience required for entry-level Registered Addiction Specialist (<strong>RAS<\/strong>):\n<ul>\n<li>155 hours formal AOD education and 2,000 hours (or one year) clinical experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Registered Addiction Specialist \u2013 Level II (<strong>RAS II<\/strong>):\n<ul>\n<li>AA Degree in healing arts or sciences and 3 years clinical experience; or<\/li>\n<li>450 hours formal AOD education and 5 years clinical experience; or<\/li>\n<li>Seven (7) years clinical experience (must have minimum of 155 hours formal AOD education)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Advanced Registered Addiction Specialist \u2013 Level III (<strong>RAS III<\/strong>):\n<ul>\n<li>BA Degree in healing arts or sciences and 3 years clinical experience; or<\/li>\n<li>AA Degree in healing arts or sciences and 5 years clinical experience; or<\/li>\n<li>Eight (8) years clinical experience\u00a0(must have minimum of 155 hours formal AOD education)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Masters Level \u2013 Registered Addiction Specialist (<strong>M-RAS<\/strong>):\n<ul>\n<li>MA or Doctorate Degree in healing arts or sciences and 3 years clinical experience; or<\/li>\n<li>BA Degree in healing arts or sciences and 5 years clinical experience; or<\/li>\n<li>Ten (10) years clinical experience\u00a0(must have minimum of 155 hours formal AOD education)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">You will need to pass the qualifying ACE Exam:<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"s1\" style=\"color: #008000;\"><b>ADDICTION COUNSELOR EXAM<\/b><\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">The qualifying exam for the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">RAS Credential is the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\"><strong>Addiction Counselor Exam<\/strong> or \u201c<strong>ACE<\/strong>\u201d\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s1\">Exam, available online daily, which may be accessed by your own computer, tablet or phone<\/span><span class=\"s1\">.\u00a0The ACE Exam was developed, reviewed and validated by nationally-recognized subject matter and psychometric experts to test for\u00a0the necessary skills and knowledge\u00a0of an addiction professional.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>You will only need to pass the ACE Exam one time, and will not need to take it again to upgrade to higher-level RAS Credentials. For example, if you hold the RAS, you will not need to take the ACE\u00a0to upgrade to the RAS II.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Acceptable Substitutes for Experience Requirement<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">The minimum clinical experience required is 2,000 hours (or 1 year)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">Acceptable substitutes for up to 4,000 hours of experience may include a degree. <\/span><span class=\"s1\">A degree in the healing arts may substitute as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">AA or AS degree may substitute for 2,000 hours of clinical experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s1\">BA or BS, MA or MS, or Doctorate degree may substitute for 4,000 hours of clinical experience<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Renewal Requirement<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s1\">Every two years<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li4\"><span class=\"s1\">Continuing Education (CE) requirement every two years is 30 hours<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr noshade=\"noshade\" size=\"5\" \/>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Links<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.breining.edu\/index.php\/online-ras-application\/\"><strong>Online RAS Application<\/strong><\/a><br \/>\nUse this online form to submit your RAS Application.
