The successful candidate for the Doctor of Addictive
Disorders (Dr.AD) degree requires a Master of Arts degree in Addictive Disorders, or other
closely related discipline (which includes those 45 units listed for the Addiction
Specialist certificate program), 80 units of Doctorate-level course work, a 10,000+ word
dissertation, and at least 40 hours of individual and/or group therapy:
- Master of Arts degree in Addictive Disorders, or closely
related discipline (including those 45 units listed for the Addiction Specialist
certificate program);
- Sixty-five units (650 hours), earning a "B"
or better grade average, in Doctorate-level coursework such as that listed below:
- Genetic Predisposition to Addictive Disorders
- Co-dependency Issues Among Health Care Professionals
- Societal Co-dependency and Enabling Issues
- Treatment Approaches in Foreign Countries
- Fifteen units (150 hours) devoted to a Doctorate-level
10,000+ word dissertation of original work in a specialty of the students choosing,
with the advice and approval of a faculty mentor and Dean of Instruction, or in an area
from the list of electives offered by Breining Institute, earning a "B" or
better grade average;
- A minimum of 40 hours of individual and/or group therapy,
over a period of at least 4 months, within two years time before or after enrollment
in the Doctorate program.
