DAVID GUST, a State
(CAADAC) and Nationally (NAADAC) Certified
Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor, has served as a faculty instructor at Breining Institute
since 1986. Since 1982, Mr. Gust has been a Counselor specializing in youth and adolescent
alcohol and drug abuse, founding and serving as the Director of New Directions Program, an
outpatient treatment program for adolescents and their families. He has served as an
instructor at California State University, Sacramento in its Chemical Dependency Studies
program; presented lectures on the problems, intervention and treatment methods for
dealing with the adolescent alcohol and drug abusers to State, National and International
organizations; and has served on several school and community task forces. In 1994, Mr.
Gust co-authored the book Effective Outpatient Treatment for Adolescents (Learning
Publications). He has served as a member of the National Adolescent Treatment Consortium,
served as a Board member for the Forum on Chemical Dependency from 1985 to 1991, and
served as Chair for the 15th Annual Symposium - Youth in the 90s. Mr. Gust
was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field of alcoholism and drug abuse
outreach, prevention and treatment when, in 1994, he received the prestigious Harold Cole
Award, which was presented by the Sacramento County Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board. Mr.
Gust received his formal Counselor training from the Hazelden Foundation in Center City,
Minnesota, in 1978. |
