In typical fashion, he deflects praise
for his role in the project by recognizing "the many, many
people who played an intricate and special role" in the
development of the first comprehensive residential drug
treatment center in the Northern California region of Nevada
County, a 37,000 square foot, four building facility that
will serve an estimated 2,000 people annually in recovering
from substance dependence and related mental health
disorders.
But one should not underestimate the role in this ambitious
project of Breining Institute alumnus Warren Daniels, a
tireless advocate and long-time leader in the addiction
treatment community. |

As part of his graduate studies work toward earning the
Master of Arts in Addictive Disorders degree (Class of
2011), Mr. Daniels submitted in 2010 a comprehensive plan to
develop a "Center for Hope" that included a strategic plan
to address the substantial increase in people needing - but
not receiving - treatment for alcohol and illicit drug use
in the Northern California region; a statistically-supported
explanation of the demographic and socio-economic
disparities in access to treatment that existed within the
region; fiscal aspects of commencing and sustaining such a
project, including initial construction financing, and
short- and long-term staffing and corporate management; as
well as a comprehensive plan for a "continuum of care" for
clients that are able to participate in one of the treatment
programs. |

One of the
graduate degree program projects submitted by
Daniels in 2010 becomes a reality at the "Center for
Hope" groundbreaking ceremony, with participants
including Daniels (far left), community leaders and
dignitaries in July 2011. |

As these type of projects
tend to go, there were the usual hurdles to overcome -
financing challenges, design delays - that test the resolve
of project participants, and knock out all but the most
committed individuals.
Still, Mr. Daniels stuck
with the development of the project while maintaining a
hectic schedule involving him in a number of other
activities: While working on his Masters Degree projects and
serving as Chief Executive Officer of Community Recovery
Resources (CoRR), he has also served as
Chair
of the California Foundation for the Advancement of
Addiction Professionals (CFAAP), served on the Board of Directors of
the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse
Counselors (NAADAC), and served as President of the California
Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors
(CAADAC).

And, if
this didn't keep him busy enough, as a Breining Institute
faculty member for over ten years Professor Daniels is a
frequent presenter for on-campus classes and workshops,
and was recently recognized by the
California Department of Alcohol and Drug Programs (ADP)
with the "Innovative and Effective Treatment Approach" ADP
Director's Award. |

"As
educators specializing in addiction
counselor training and education since 1986, we are honored
to be associated with someone as dedicated to the treatment
community as Mr. Daniels has been for many years," says Kathy
L. Christopher, Dean
of Academic Affairs for Breining Institute.
